Thorntask Ltd were employed by LUL Nominee to carry out the installation of Platform Humps to enable step free access at Highbury & Islington and Finsbury Park Station on both Victoria Line platforms. Thorntask’s main works included;
- Setting out of the platform humps, site dimension and detailing of replacement manholes
- Construction of the platform humps, including;
- Preparation of existing flooring (screeding, scabbled, etc.)
- Breaking out and removal of existing slabs, coping stones and tactiles
- Installation of Coping Stones, paving slabs, tactiles
- Platform line marking
Thorntask performed the role of Principle Contractor (under the CDM Regulations) for these works undertaking all the
necessary notifications, approvals and documentation requirements associated with the works.
The works were required to be completed during 48hr possessions, as such thorough planning and competent supervision was critical in ensuring that all available time was utilised to the maximum effect. Careful consideration was given to access and egress and for the movement of up to 30 tonnes of materials through the station.
As part of the works Thorntask carried out extensive protection of the works areas to minimise the risk of damage to London Underground assets during the works, as the stations are Section 12, Thorntask ensure that all protective sheeting used was fire rated and LU approved.
All works were carried out directly by Thorntask staff including protection staff (Site Person in Charge). Various skilled trades people were employed on the works including paviors, engineers and groundworkers.
All works carried out in accordance and within the constraints of London Underground working procedures, standards, processes and contract QUENSH conditions.
