Thorntask were employed by Skanska to carry out reconstruction and repair works to five platforms at Tring Railway Station. The works formed part of the West Coast Mainline Modernisation Scheme.

The works Involved the removal and reconstruction of 5 new platforms including coper stone, tactiles, drawpits, platform drainage, manholes, platform signs and furniture, ducting, routeworks and all enabling works for other trades.
Thorntask were responsible for the management and supervision of all onsite works including the production of relevant health & safety documentation (i.e. method statement, risk assessments, etc.) and were responsible for liaising with other contractors onsite to ensure that work clashes were avoided.

As part of the works Thorntask installed over 1500m of platform drainage using Aco drainage system. All works were carried out directly by Thorntask, utilising the company’s highly trained and competent workforce consisting of drain layers qualified to nationally recognised standards (i.e. City & Guilds, NVQ’s, etc.), civil engineers and plant operators.

All works were carried out using Thorntask supplied plant including mini-excavators and vacuum slab lifters which were used to maximise efficiency and reduce manual handling requirements throughout the duration of the works.
