Following surveys at Bethnal Green Station it was identified that the existing insulation in the cladding panels on the platforms was non-compliant with London Underground specification. As such Thorntask were contracted by LUL Nominee BCV to carry out the removal of the non-compliant cladding.

The Scope of Works consisted of;

  • Careful removal of existing cladding panels.
  • Removal of existing acoustic insulation including removal of any adhesives and riveted connections.
  • Check existing support structure to ensure structural stability, carry out any remedial works which may be required
  • Clean and replace removed panels
  • Remove and dispose of all waste materials off site


All works were carried out in engineering hours with Thorntask responsible for the provision of access equipment consisting of GRP (fibre-glass) mobile scaffold towers. In addition to this Thorntask carried out full asset protection during the works using LUL approved fire rated sheeting.
